Busy and Loving it!

So Jason did the test run to make sure that this blog would work, now it's my turn. We created this blog for our listeners and fans to show how busy, rewarding and fun it can be to have a small business.

My days start when the coffeepot is creating my IV link to the world, I read the news on AOL or Yahoo early in the morning. From 4 weeks ago I have been searching for information on other small businesses that we at Something Building could share with you, our listeners.

Tuesdays are my busiest days even more now than before. Because I do have a family I am responsible for, I wear many hats in this household along with wife and mother. Small business owner of JSN Creative Services, an e-publishing company. I do graphic designs for a paper called Tidbits which my co-host and I work on together and of course the radio show. Our deadline days for getting the paper to the printer is Tuesday and last night I had an interview that needed to be recorded for the show. Its best to get the work done and not put it off tomorrow. Before you know it the work is past a week and still not done.

That's what happened for the questions for Lisa that I need to work up. It was to be done Monday but didn't get done. On Tuesday the same thing and here it is Wednesday. I like to have all ducks in a row for the show by Wednesday so we are prepared for Saturday.

As I have stated before on the show you have to know who to send work out too. You can't possibly do everything yourself. With JSNCS I contract work out to an illustrator. I can draw very well I just don't have time for it cause it takes me 6 hours or more to convert 1 e-book for Kindle. The coding is killer for me but publishing is my passion.  And you add graphic design and sometimes sales for Tidbits I have to make sure that all the work gets done.

Last night I created a print ad for the radio show. It's important that we find out what works best for advertising for you and print advertising is important. Why should money be spent on it? Where you can get the word out about your business you still need the help of a print publisher. If you support your paper, your paper supports you. They can reach a larger audience then you can. The best option is to find what is popular with the people in your town. That's your target audience. And I know for a fact that it does take time for people to start trusting your business, which is why it's important to keep advertising your business. The more that people see your business the more they trust you. Take a look at the lawyers that advertise on TV and on billboards. You see them when you do not need them but you know who you want to turn to when it comes down to that. It's the exact same thing for your business, this is one of the most important ways to reach out and create a bond with future customers.

So I've gotten the print ad done and posted it to Something Building's fb page and getting ready to re-touch it to include CST zone so that it can be posted here. Having one ad is okay to circulate and it can be circulated everywhere. It's important to keep your ad whether you create it yourself or have someone like the local paper create it for you, but you need to be happy with your ad, it’s a reflection of you and what you do.

The interview recorded last night has been sent to my co-host Jason to make sure everything sounds good. We spend just about every single night on Skype just to make sure that we are on the same page, not only for Tidbits but for the radio show. Jason also owns a title preparation business in our hometown of Mobile, AL. I live in Birmingham, AL. Tidbits is a paper for parts of Birmingham so Jason has to travel up here during the week to get things for the paper done. Not to mention that he has several offices throughout the state of Alabama for his Title paperwork business.

So if you think that you’re just too busy to create your small business dream. You’re never too busy to full-fill a dream. Heck, think of your bucket list (which seems popular right now) and put starting your business on that list.

We have a good bit of things to discuss for the show, including godaddy.com's problem they had on Monday. Which affected a lot of small businesses, the radio show website included.

It’s just about lunchtime and I still have a lot of work today so I’m done blogging.
Don’t forget to check us out online at www.somethingbuilding.com on facebook at www.facebook.com/somethingbuilding and listen to the show www.blogtalkradio.com/somethingbuilding

As I have been dubbed by my best friend and co-host of the show, Jason. I leave you with my new closing tag.

Queen of Love you all!!!

Beth Elliott.
